Nancy Caterpillar is a friend of Darrelle Butterfly and Daniel Striped Tiger who once visited the Neighborhood of Make-Believe. Longing to be a butterfly herself,[1] she taught a lesson to the schoolchildren at Someplace Else about how a caterpillar changes into a butterfly.[2]

After encouragement from her friend Darrelle Butterfly, Nancy realizes that being a caterpillar is special. It is at that moment that she turns into a beautiful butterfly.[3]
