Description

Communicating at a pace and tone that is comfortable for young children, Mister Rogers helps his television neighbors understand their feelings, respect others, feel valued, develop inner controls and appreciate the world around them.

Episode 1 - Circus Fun

Mister Rogers and Betty Aberlin visit the circus! They see performances by trapeze artists, acrobats, elephants and more! Behind the scenes, Mister Rogers learns how clowns put on their make-up and talks with some of the many other people who work at the circus. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Chuckles the Clown and Lady Aberlin help their friends feel better about themselves.

Episode 2 - Music Adventures

Mister Rogers visits a friend who has a fascinating collection of musical instruments from around the world. The neighbors in Make-Believe come together and show their creativity when they participate in a bass violin festival!

  • Pretzel Factory Tour - A clip taken from an episode of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood shows a place where pretzels are made.
  • Recipe Fun: Soft Pretzels - Step-by-step instructions on how to make soft pretzels
  • Sing-Along: "It's You I Like" - Viewers are encouraged to sing along with Mister Rogers as he sings It's You I Like in a clip taken from a Neighborhood episode.
  • Read-Along: "Josephine the Short-Neck Giraffe" - Mr. McFeely reads the story of Josephine the Short-Neck Giraffe. Viewers also have the option of reading the story on their own with Mr. McFeely's naration.
  • 3 Games
    • Musical Numbers - Mr. McFeely asks how many of a certain musical instrument are seen on the screen. Viewers select the correct number using the remote control.
    • Circus Fun - Similar to the Musical Numbers game, Mr. McFeely asks viewers to find certain objects in the picture on the screen. Using the remote, viewers select the object.
    • Build a Neighborhood - A DVD-ROM game which allows users to point and click as they create their own Neighborhood of Make-Believe scene.
  • Activities - Instructions for making a paper plate shaker.
  • Neighborhood Gallery - By selecting any one of several Neighborhood characters, viewers can learn some details about each individual.
  • About Fred Rogers - A C-Span clip showing Fred Rogers receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2002.

Care-Giving Tips Booklet

In addition to the special features found on the DVD itself, a special booklet can be found inside the DVD case which includes print instructions for making pretzels, instructions for making a paper plate shaker, and lyrics for It's You I Like. Additionally, there are six pages of care-giving tips provided by the "expert staff of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood."
