Misterogers (CBC, 12/26/1962)

Network: Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
Air Date: December 26, 1962

Mister Rogers opens with Daniel Striped Tiger who sings the Why Hi Song. It is just after Christmas and Mister Rogers suggests that the best gifts sometimes come late.

Daniel goes to the clock where he is greeted by Santa Claus. Santa is reminded of Daniel’s request for the gift of a new friend and Daniel wonders if Santa might be that friend. Daniel is excited to learn that Santa would be happy to accept be his friend.

At the tree, X the Owl is delighted to meet “Sandy Claus” and thanks him for his gifts – two oranges and a fishing pole. Having always wondered what Santa might be like in person, X sings I Wonder.

At the castle, Santa meets Lady Elaine Fairchilde who is quick to inform Santa that she received the wrong gift – a Super Electra Lockheed instead of a 707 Boeing Jet. Santa takes the Lockheed and agrees to exchange it for a Boeing.

Greeting King Friday XIII in the castle’s throne room, the king recites “Scintillate Scintillate Diminutive Stellar Orb" (Twinkle Twinkle Little Star). He gives Santa the gift of December 25th – the entire day – with the expectation that it be shared with others. As Santa departs, Daniel Striped Tiger sings Goodnight God and closes with the So Long Song.

Notes

The opening song – Misterogers’ Invitation – is spoken like a poem and not sung as a song.

According to Santa, all of the reindeer are doing well after Christmas except for Prancer who has a “strained hoof.”

Daniel Striped Tiger is wearing a Tame Tiger Torganization pin as often seen on The Children’s Corner.

Lady Elaine receives a Super Electra Lockheed but had asked for a 707 Boeing Jet. As she reminds Santa, she was given a Super Electra Lockheed last year.
