H. J. Elephant III is a resident of Westwood who occasionally visits the Neighborhood of Make-Believe. He and Tadpole Frogg are best friends.[1]

H.J. cannot read but is fluent in understanding sign language. Slightly skilled in boomerang magic, H.J. Elephant's magic words are “Oh me, oh my.”

According to a Neighborhood census, H.J. can whistle and his favorite color is pinkish-yellowish-brownish-orange.[2]

H.J. Elephant appears as the witch’s helper in the opera A Key to Otherland.

H.J. Elephant's Name and Background

H.J. Elephant is named after the late Senator H. John Heinz III -- a Pennsylvania representative and friend to Fred Rogers.


Puppet Demonstration

Chuck Aber demonstrates the H.J. Elephant puppet in Episode 1566 and Episode 1759. The H.J. puppet is also demonstrated in the Neighbohrood of Make-Believe in Episode 1566 and Episode 1567.

H.J. Elephant appears on camera at the same time as Neighbor Aber (without Chuck Aber controlling the puppet) in Episode 1570.
