Misterogers (CBC, 1/27/1964)

Network: Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
Air Date: January 27, 1964

Mister Rogers shares an electric model rocket ship that moves "in orbit" around him. He mentions that a plane flew over his house earlier and he wonders if it may have been piloted by Captain Blye.

In Make-Believe, Captain Blye is showing Loro Farell around the neighborhood as she is there seeking employment. He starts with the castle where he and Ms. Farell sing Won't You Be My Neighbor. Captain Blye goes inside the castle to "see about [Loro] becoming his neighbor" and encourages her to take a look around the Neighborhood of Make-Believe until he returns.

At the tree, Ms. Farell meets X the Owl who welcomes her with the gift of a dried prune and a dried apricot. X takes no offense when she politely tells him that she does not like dried prunes or apricots and he offers her a poem instead:

January Just For You

I have not written poetry for such a long, long time
I thought I'd sit right here in my tree and make a little rhyme (for you and me)
You see I had to do it before the month was through
Or else I couldn't name it 'January Just For You'

January comes but once a year
And every time it comes it's here

It always brings 31 days and I'll tell you they're usually cold
I bundle up in my neat scarf and usually wear a hat or two
It's not for me to catch a cough and stay in bed for a week or more

Ice skating's fun, that's the best part of January's cold
But I'll tell you, I'd just as soon go swimming

So you see, my closest friends, I'm glad to write a poem
Because January's nearly done and February's next

Invited back to the castle, Ms. Farell tells Captain Blye about her time with X and together they sing A Fine Feathered Friend. King Friday XIII enters the castle garden and agrees to hire Ms. Loro as the stewardess on the royal jet plane piloted by Captain Blye. She is instructed to be in uniform by tomorrow and to attend a royal tea party for "the captain, the stewardess, and their beloved king."

Back at the house, Mister Rogers concludes by singing Tomorrow as the toy rocket ship continues its orbit.

Notes

As Ms. Farell is being introduced to King Friday, Lady Elaine Fairchilde and Cornflake S. Pecially can be seen at the factory in the distant background.

Transitioning back to the house after Make-Believe, the model rocket ship orbiting around Mister Rogers crashes into the Trolley as it re-enters from the tunnel.

During the credits of this episode, Captain Blye is seen outside the castle teaching Ms. Farell proper saluting techniques.
