Misterogers (CBC, 12/11/1963)

Network: Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
Air Date:December 11, 1963

Mister Rogers answers a call on his "French telephone" and then another on an old-fashioned phone. Finally, he answers a call from a viewer ("It's one of you!") before showing a small model of the Neighborhood of Make-Believe phone.

In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Captain Blye sing It's an Ugly Day in expression of his disappointment in King Friday's decision to discontinue construction of the bridge between the castle and the new museum. King Friday has declared that another option must be provided or he will not support the establishment of the museum. Hearing Captain Blye's singing, Mrs. Frogg shares the good news that Tad is liking the Neighborhood of Make-Believe more as the Frogg family plans their move.

At the tree, X the Owl sings Smile in Your Pocket when he recognizes Captain Blye's somber mood. Thinking over the situation, X offers a solution: "He won't go over and won't go through. There's only one thing left to do." Captain Blye likes X's idea of building a tunnel and sings It's Good to Talk on his way to pitch the idea to King Friday.

Captain Blye finds King Friday atop the castle looking through a telescope for the air mail plane. The king is expecting "thousands of letters" in celebration of his upcoming birthday. When Captain Blye suggets a path to the museum that wouldn't even require King Friday to go outside, the idea is immediately approved: "Build it at once and line it with purple velvet! And don't tell me what it is until my birthday."

Back at the house, Mister Rogers shares his mailing address so viewers might send materials to help line the walls of the new underground passage.

Notes

During the credits, King Friday XIII and Edgar Cooke are seen at the castle with Captain Blye looking over plans for the tunnel.
