Misterogers (CBC, 10/18/1963)

Network: Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
Air Date: October 18, 1963

Mister Rogers opens with the silly riddle, "What's black and white and read all over?" (A newspaper, of course). With him he has the message of good will sent to King Friday the previous day by Daniel Striped Tiger. Mister Rogers mentions how much he likes Daniel's caring nature and then sings I Like You As You Are. The Neighborhood Trolley delivers an invitation to Mister Rogers from King Friday for a "peace party" at the Calendarland castle.

In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Mr. Farmer returns unaware of the recent conflict which has taken place. With him he has a turkey and a rabbit which he shows to Daniel Striped Tiger. Daniel and Mr. Farmer talk about friendship before Daniel sings Then Your Heart is Full of Love.

When Mr. Farmer sees smoke coming from the Eiffel Tower, he is relieved to find Grandpere cooking a pizza for King Friday's peace party. Grandpere has misunderstood and believes the king is hosting a pizza party, but Mr. Farmer does not have the heart to correct him.

On the way to the castle, Mr. Farmer is stopped by Lady Elaine Fairchilde who gives him a measuring stick and asks him to measure the west side of the castle for a "surprise" she is planning. Edgar Cooke welcomes Mr. Farmer who is invited by King Friday to enter the ballroom through the east side of the castle. Accepting the invitation, Mr. Farmer stops to measure the castle as he enters. The castle is ten feet high, but has he measured the wrong side?

Back at the house, Mister Rogers concludes by singing Goodnight God.

Notes

Mr. Farmer tells Daniel that the rabbit's name is James R. Rabbit. The name James could potentially be in reference to Fred Rogers' oldest son, James, who would have been about four years old at the time this episode aired.

Daniel mentions that he has a raccoon friend named Cooney.
