THE NEIGHBORHOOD ARCHIVE - All Things Mister Rogers | ||
Misterogers (CBC, 10/15/1963)Network: Canadian Broadcasting Corporation Mister Rogers encourages viewers to knock on the floor where they are and he opens a pretend door as he welcomes them to today’s visit. He talks about pretending and sings I Like You As You Are. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, King Friday XIII declares that anyone who comes to the castle must go through customs and declare anything they are carrying. He instructs Edgar Cooke to perform any searches that may be necessary. Meanwhile, Mr. Farmer is looking for the baby turkey so he may return it to the farm. As he approaches the castle, Edgar asks him to declare his possessions to which Mr. Farmer replies, “Two bombs, six hand grenades, and a good size submarine.” His declaration is followed by a wink towards the viewer. As could be expected, King Friday is not amused with Mr. Farmer’s declaration and orders he be locked in jail. Unfortunately for King Friday, there is no jail in Make-Believe so he suggests that Edgar build one and Mr. Farmer return to carry out his sentence when it is completed. Under the assumption that King Friday was only joking about the jail, Mr. Farmer moves along to the oak tree where the baby turkey has been staying with X the Owl. On his way, he sings What Would You Like To Do Today. When Mr. Farmer tells X about his encounter with King Friday, X informs him that everyone in Make-Believe has been sentenced to jail by the king at one time or another. His threat to build a jail never comes to fruition. Mr. Farmer takes the baby turkey with him as he heads back to his farm. Back at the house, Mister Rogers wonders if Mr. Farmer really had a submarine or if he was only kidding. Looking into a small sink, Mister Rogers mentions there was a frog under the streaming water yesterday but today he finds a toy submarine! NotesEdgar Cooke is seen cleaning with a feather duster outside the castle during the credits. Appearing In This Episode
