Filmed in the studios of WQED / Pittsburgh, Mister Rogers Talks With Parents About Competition features the expert opinions of Fred Rogers and Harvard Psychologist Tom Cottle.

Hosted by Susan Stamberg of NPR's All Things Considered, this one-hour special offers parents insight into competition among children and the emotions that competition can create.

Along with commentary from Fred Rogers and Dr. Cottle and their responses to audience members' questions, this special also includes a short conversation with Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver, Lynn Swann.

The Lewiston Daily Sun (Lewiston, Maine) ran a three-part article about this special in May of 1981.

The special preceded Mister Rogers' Neighborhood's Competition week of episodes which originally aired in June of 1981. Featured in this special is a clip of Sesame Street's Big Bird visiting the Neighborhood of Make-Believe from Episode 1483.
