On Planet Purple -- a planet discovered by Lady Elaine Fairchilde -- all women and girls are called Pauline (all men and boys are called Paul). Speaking in the same monotonous voice, all Paulines look the same, think the same, and feel the same.

One Pauline visited the Neighborhood of Make-Believe with a Paul and Purple Panda. While they were there, Paul tripped and fell causing him to cry. This was the first time anyone from Planet Purple had felt an emotion.

Paul, Pauline, and Purple Panda were inspired to return to Planet Purple and share the colors, emotions, and differences they had discovered in the Neighborhood of Make-Believe.
