Will King Friday ever go into retirement so his son can become King Tuesday? I don't think they would ever write off King Friday by making him die, although Mr. Rogers wanted the kids to know the truth which is why he brought up such subjects, including the death of one his fish.

Kings and queens don't usually retire.

I think queens in Europe abdicated in favor of their sons. Only Queen Elizabeth won't abdicate in favor of Charles.

I don't think any past queens of England ever abdicated in favor of their sons.  Victoria and Elizabeth I definitely served until their deaths.

I said queens of Europe, not England. I think the Queen of Belgium and the Queen of Holland recently abdicated.

Both of this monarchs are living and abdicated in favor of their sons. Beatrix's mother also abdicated in her favor.

Interestingly enough, when the king of Sweden dies, his daughter will become the Queen of Sweden.
