A huge apology goes out to anyone who has tried over the past several months to register as a user on this message board! For some reason, I was no longer receiving notifications when new members signed up and, therefore, did not know there was a backlog of people waiting for approval!

Should be all good now...and with that...WELCOME!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I was the one who message you on facebook. Glad to have found a community who share interest for Fred Rogers. Looking forward to be part of the discussions. Apologies in advance for my english, it is my second langage.

ASL Friends

Hello,
I'm grateful to be included in The Neighborhood Forum.  What an opportunity to continue sharing and remembering Fred Rogers legacy with like-minded neighbors!

As founder of ASL Friends, I would like to share our efforts to make "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" accessible through American Sign Language.  "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" is a powerful language model that has been successful teaching English as a Second Language to hearing individuals.  For young deaf children and their families, when "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" is combined with Deaf signers the impact is profound.  Many deaf children are isolated due to the lack of communication in their environments.  The rich content of "Mister Rogers' ASL Friends" offers a bridge out of isolation.

Join our efforts to create theme week "Going Away and Coming Back" with American Sign Language under the direction of Deaf director/producer James DeBee by sharing or contributing to our GoFundMe Charity Campaign https://charity.gofundme.com/o/en/campaign/mister-rogers-asl-friends
Our non-profit organization welcomes all contributions large and small.  All contributions are tax deductible.

The idea to add sign language to "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" started long ago.  Fred was very pleased that his program would one day be accessible to young deaf children.  While Fred Rogers Productions supports our efforts, it's important to note that any funds solicited for ASL Friends, Inc. are not being solicited by, or on behalf of, Fred Rogers Productions.
