Did Mr. Rogers ever appear on Oprah?

My wife has never been one of the huge Oprah devotees, and so I don't know much about her. I know she made a conscious decision to not produce the same kind of trash that other daytime talk shows were known for. But my wife has been watching the behind the scenes shows that Oprah has produced about her final season and we are both impressed with her various contributions to scholarships and her interest in education. It made me wonder if Fred had ever appeared on her show. I've never heard that he had, but I just wondered.

I don't think so.  I know he appeared on Rosie O' Donnell.  I remember thinking when I first seen that episode, I thought to myself that was a bit of a stretch for him.  He was promoting the Giving Box.

She may have done a tribute video package to Fred when he passed away, but I'm not sure.

What's the giving box? Is that a book of his? I don't think I've heard of that one.

I always wondered the same thing- he would have been a fantastic guest on her show.

I have also always been curious about the giving box.  Do you have it, TL?  I thought it might be a nice gift when some of my godchildren get a little older, but wasn't sure what age was the best to give it as a gift.

I do have the Giving Box...it'd be a pretty nice gift for a kid. If it's direct Mister Rogers content you're looking for, there's not much aside from his picture on the book. But if you're looking for a gift that represents one of his many messages, this is a good one. You can usually find it for a pretty reasonable price on eBay and it might even still be available through the Fred Rogers Company online store.

Thanks, TL!  Yeah, besides my kids I don't really know any other kids who watch MRN :)  But I think his messages are still so important and need to reach more children!   Um, yeah, AND more adults!  Do you think 2nd grade would be an appropriate age to gift the box, or sooner/later?
