What About Love?
In this video visit from MISTER ROGERS NEIGHBORHOOD, creator and host Fred Rogers thinks about love in its different guises.
Love is never easy to understand, especially when people who love each other get angry. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Lady Aberlin is confused when her loving uncle and aunt, King Friday XIII and Queen Sara Saturday, have a fight. As Lady Aberlin puts the question, "What is Love?" to the other neighbors, she comes to appreciate the intensity and complexity of loving relationships.
It's the people we love the most who can make use the maddest. Mister Rogers reminds us, while encouraging children to find appropriate ways to express their strong feelings. One way to express anger, for instance, might be to play a xylophone or a drum -- percussionist Don Liuzzi helps with this.
MISTER ROGERS: WHAT ABOUT LOVE? both affirms the value of love and acknowledges other feelings that can go along with it. As for love itself: "The more love you give to others, the more love you have for yourself," Rogers assures his viewing friends. "You can keep on giving love...and you can never run out!"
