THE NEIGHBORHOOD ARCHIVE - All Things Mister Rogers

Freqeuently Asked Questions

How did you get copies of all of these episodes of Mister Rogers Neighborhood?
The episodes from 1979 and beyond were recorded from my local PBS station in the few years before the broadcasts of the program were reduced/eliminated. I had no idea that the broadcasts were going to be cut back so drastically so it was just dumb luck that I decided to start recording them. Most of the pre-1979 footage that I have has been aquired through other collectors who have recorded and saved television broadcasts.

Do you work for the Fred Rogers Company (Family Communications Inc)?
No, I do not. Aside from the fact that this website is dedicated to the work of the man behind FCI, I am in no way affiliated with the company. Legally, the content of this site is the property of FRC and they have graciously given their permission for me to use it in this format. That being said, FRC has strayed away from officially endorsing this site (which is understandable considering the small amount of opinion/commentary found within).

Is there anywhere on this website where I can watch episodes of MRN?
Unfortunately not. This website is strictly informational. Although video footage would certainly enhance this archival tribute, through correspondence with FRC/FCI, I have agreed to refrain from sharing actual video footage on this site or the blog as they have otherwise given their full blessing for this site. There are, however, a select number of episodes which can be viewed on the PBS Kids website as well as many episodes which you can purchase on DVD or digital download through Amazon.com and iTunes.

Why do you put so much time into a website about Mister Rogers?
Try to find someone who's never heard of Mister Rogers. It's not so easy. For a man who impacted the lives of countless people through his work, before the establishment of this site there was a huge void on the internet when it came to anything that paid adequate tribute to Fred Rogers. Although this site is a continuous work in progress, I hope that it continues to grow and helps to fill a small portion of that void.

Why does the Fred Rogers Company (FCI) not share footage of the MRN more freely?
There is much more to this than FRC simply hoarding this footage. That is not the case at all. There are legal and financial issues associated with sharing this footage and I fully support the position of FRC.

Do you collect all of this stuff?
While I do have a pretty respectable collection of Mister Rogers memorabilia, I simply do not have the money or the space to collect everything I come across. This is where the contributions of this site's readers become extremely helpful. Through digital submissions, I am able to provide details on various pieces without actually having to own them.
