THE NEIGHBORHOOD ARCHIVE - All Things Mister Rogers

Evening Shade

On the 1991 episode of Evening Shade titled "Gamber Anonymous," Wood Newton (Burt Reynolds) tries to keep secret the presence of his guest -- old acquaintance country-music singer Kenny Rogers.

Of course, referring to Kenny Rogers as "Mr. Rogers" creates some confusion.

AVA: Alright. Who'd you invite over without asking me?

WOOD: It's a surprise.

AVA: That's the problem.

WOOD: No. It's a good surprise.

AVA: When does this surprise arrive?

(DOORBELL RINGS AND KENNY ROGERS ENTERS AS CHILDREN BEGIN ARGUING)

KENNY ROGERS: Hi, guys.

WILL: Who's that, mom?

AVA: It's Mr. Rogers, honey.

WILL: No it's not. Mister Rogers wears tennis shoes and a sweater.
