THE NEIGHBORHOOD ARCHIVE - All Things Mister Rogers

iCons Doll

DATE: 2012
ARTIST: Aristotle Allen

Description

This wonderful piece of art is part of the iCons series of material by designer Aristotle Allen. Titled "A Good Neighbor," this piece is hand-painted on cotton fabric using acrylic paint and stands approximately 7 3/4" tall. Stuffed and stitched, this piece is signed and dated on the side: "Aristotle 2012."

According to the artist, the Mister Rogers doll was special because he grew up watching the Neighborhood on PBS. He felt that Mister Rogers does not get the respect he deserves as celebrities are often praised for scandalous behavior; meanwhile people like Fred Rogers who try to contribute in positive ways are often overlooked. The doll was Mr. Allen's way of paying homage to Mister Rogers' positive service to children and people all over the world.
