Episode 1047
« on: April 23, 2013, 09:42:25 AM »
I noticed the picture of the production title board and there are few interesting things to point out.  The logo for one.  I wonder if the original idea once MRN got switched to color if the multi-colored logo would be used.  While the colors are different but some of  the pre79 books that came out used the multi-colored logo.  I wondered if they ever tried taping an episode with the multi-colored logo.

Do we know what the point was for changing the episode numbers to the 1000s?  I noticed on the board it says episode 177?

Interesting.  So far, that is the only color episode that Tim has posted that seems to be the original copy, since it doesn't have the trolley closing.  Strangely, 1046 does have the trolley closing, so its not as if this week was never updated with the trolley closing.

Tim: do you know why this episode is the original copy rather than the updated one with the trolley closing?  Is there anything else about the episode that is different?  Are the other episodes obviously editted, or is it not obvious?  It's strange that even 1036-1040 had the trolley closing.  Is 1047 in the Plan and Play book?

I know that the episodes were re-numbered with episodes in the 1000s so that the color episodes would be renumberd seperately from the black and white episode.  Also, you can think of, for example, 131 as the original version, and 1001 as the updated version.  What I don't know is, when the episodes were renumbered.  Tim, do you know?

Also, Tim, have you tried asking anyone from FCI (you seem to have a "reliable source") when 1036-1040, 1051-1055, 1056-1060, and 1071-1075 last aired?  Thanks.

Sorry to say I don't have any answers for you. Not sure why this one is a little different from others -- it's just the copy I was provided access to...

I noticed on the blog that llcoolmartin said that the Plan and Play book lists the song "One and One is Two" for this episode, but Tim says the actual episode does not have it.  I am guessing that when the episode was edited for its later reruns, that some was maybe added to the episode, and something else was deleted.

Interesting to see an "original" print of an early color episode, complete with production slate.    Just something I'm slightly curious about - was there an NET logo at the end?   Or even this PBS logo?

Do we know if Episode 1047 ever re-aired again?

I highly doubt that anything was edited from this episode. This song was not sung in its entirety but when Lady Aberlin is counting the numbers on the clock, she sings "6-7-8-9-10" to sound like the ending of One and One Are Two. The song was likely included in the Plan and Play book based on this alone as it does not appear elsewhere in the week. I chose to list it in the Notes rather than the Songs list simply because the song was not actually sung -- just referenced.

It ends with an animated NET logo that ends up looking like this.

Show 1049's like this as well it seems. And there's a few interesting things i notice about 1047 & 1049:

1. Not only do they open with a production board like the 1968 episodes do, but look at the tape date on 177/1047. It's 3-20-69!
2. The film of Chef Brockett making a cake appears to be the same one shown in Show 1439 from 1975 (i know, that detail unfortunately can't be noted for the episode because it's not covered yet).
3. According to the board, 179/1049 was shot before 1047, 3-12-69.

BTW, you all probably already knew this, but according to this site, the episode that premiered on March 20th that year was 1029.

I imagine Fred had to work around Aberlin's, Brockett's, and Trow's schedule therefore the reasoning behind the different taping dates.  Probably a lot depended on what their schedules were.
