Ob Talk.
« on: August 28, 2012, 05:51:24 PM »
I remember in a 1972 episode when Mr. McFeely stops by and asks to use the phone to call his wife and ends the call saying something in was he calls Ob Talk.

Well it's so interesting is ZOOM debuted in January of that year and for anyone who's seen either the original or revival series know that had a similar talk called Ubbi Dubbi.

Don't know if it would be fair to say he (well you know what I mean.)

Wonder what the ZOOM producers thought of it?

Thanks.

Are you sure the airdate is 1972?

Copyright says 71.

I'm guessing that this episode was filmed in late 1971 -- hence the difference in dates. Not positive about that -- just speculating.

If it was 1197, it was definitely 1972. February 22, 1972 to be exact. The copyright dates are very screwy for most of the pre-79s, but we definitely know when every single pre-79 debuted.

Incidentally, if Zoom premiered in January 1972, would anyone know which exact day? Jan. 3, 10, 17, 24, or 31? I'm guessing Jan. 3, since it would make sense for a show to premiere at the very start of the year, and the remake debuted that same week 27 years later, Jan. 4, 1999. But then again, 3-2-1 Contact premiered Jan. 14, 1980, not Jan. 7. And as I remember hearing, 3-2-1 Contact replaced Zoom, so therefore Zoom had an 8-year run, airing its last episode on Jan. 11, 1980.

I don't know why, but somehow I thought 3-2-1 Contact replaced it, while apparently nothing did because after 1/14/80, as far as I know, there was no new PBS kids show until Reading Rainbow in 1983. What day in 1981 was the last episode of Zoom?

Un I think we should be sticking to the subject of this section which is not about other PBS shows.

According to Wikipedia, the first episode was Jan. 3, 1972.

That makes total sense. Do you know when it last aired in 1981?

There are several episodes that have a different copyright date likely because they were shot the previous year. Amazon mistakingly thinks 1261, 1271 and 1281 all debuted in 1972 all because the copyright date says so.

And of course as we all know, Superheroes (1466-1470) had this problem too and was the only such post-75 week. At the end of the credits, it says 1979, but it premiered in Feburary, 1980. The likely reason for that is because it may've been shot in 1979, i'm guessing late summer or fall. Also, i don't watch this show so i'm not entirely certain, but i think the Incredible Hulk episode seen being shot in 1468 probably premiered in the fall of that year.

I always wondered if Superheroes was maybe originally planned to air in October 1979, hence the 1979 copyright date.  Does anyone know for sure when it started airing in October?  I know it aired in October 1983.  But what about 1980, 1981, or 1982?

The other thing I never understood was the episodes in the 70s with 2 copyright dates.  Does anyone know about those?
