The Big Red Apartment Tower in the credits
« on: July 02, 2012, 08:21:13 PM »
The first thing you see in the Mr. Rogers intro sequence is that big red apartment tower model.  Does Mr. Rogers ever visit a place supposedly "located" in that model building like he does other model buildings in his show?

I often wondered that too. I know that's his "work" he comes from.

In the older episodes before 1970, it seems this had "NET" on the back of it as a credit to National Educational Television (networks). When NET changed to PBS, they changed the look of the building to remove the NET.

When I was young, I always thought it was where he set off to work after he left at the end of each episode.

I never knew what that building was either, but now that I think about it, I think it may have just been Family Communications' so-called "headquarters".

Why would you think that?

Probably wasn't suppsoed to be anything other than a building in the neighborhood.

When I was a kid, I always thought that was supposed to represent his "real" home. I'm not sure how I came to that conclusion. Since the show always started and ended with that building, I guess I just assumed that's where he left from and returned to from his television home.

That was my impression as well.
