I just read this bio on Fred's life by George E. Stanley. Loved it, does anyone know if his adopted sister, Lainey, is still alive? I have ordered The Simple Faith of Mister Rogers-can't wait to get it. Has anyone read this or any other bio?

The Simple Faith of Mister Rogers is a pretty decent book but I enjoyed Tim Madigan's book I'm Proud of You much more.

I have to admit I own but haven't even finished The Simple Faith of Mister Rogers- and I love me some Mister Rogers AND Jesus!!  :)  It wasn't a page turner for me, but that doesn't mean that it isn't a good book. . .I'm just a little short on reading time and tend to fall asleep if the book isn't super exciting. I have to say the "Does it ever Rain in your Neighborhood" was an all time favorite of mine.

The Simple Faith seems to be more about the author's life than Freds. I'm pretty dissapointed.

I'd suggest reading Tim Madigan's book I'm Proud of You.

I will have to check out I'm proud of You from the library!  I agree with the comment that The Simple Faith. . . was more about the author.  I feel like when I read Fred's own writing, I get insight into his faith and I love to watch the show and see how it was so beautifully incorporated into his work in ways that were inclusive to people of all faith backgrounds.  I was kind of hoping for more of that in Simple Faith, but I think I was disappointed (and therefore not motivated to read more) because I was finding it just a bit too self-indulgent on the part of the author.  If you get to the end, let me know if it is worth taking on my vacation this year to give it another go.

Thanks for the advice I will pick up a copy of, "I'm Proud of You".

I finished The Simple Faith today, one thing that stood out was a quote from Wordsworth, 

                             Heaven lies about us in our infancy!
                             Shades of the prison-house begin to close
                             Upon the growing Boy,

  Fred related a story (to the author) about a little boy wanting to visit with a newborn sibling, the parents were reluctant but finally allowed him to. The boy asked the newborn, I was wondering if you could tell me what it is like (To be a little child) I was beginning to forget.


This seems to strike a cord with me! I think this is why I love Mr. Rogers so much, he reminds me what it is like to be a child again. Maybe I will go back to teaching!
