1969-1970 Technical Color Issues
« on: April 27, 2012, 11:13:28 AM »
Has anyone ever notice any technical color issues on the very first two color season episodes from the neighborhood. Indeed after carefully looking at 1004 you can notice color seem too exaggerated or is a technical error? Some episodes seem abit darker looking than others. 1009, 1011, 1012 seem to look pretty good colorwise, also seem brighter looking too. Some shows from the 1970 season do seem abit darker looking first few earlier shows from the 70 season.

The Color on certain shows seems to have a water color style to it. 1055 is a good example of that!  I think some of this could be the result of the lights inside the tv studio being dimmed down abit. For whatever reason they sometimes have the lights inside the tv studio brighter, some days darker.

You really have to look very carefully at these details to notice these types of things.

It may have to do with the quality of the video that Tim reviewed.  I think that many of the early episodes that he reviewed were from VHS tapes that were recorded during the 1980s.

I think you're probably right. When I first started this site, much of what I had on had was exactly that -- copies of episodes I had recorded myself or that had been recorded by others. In some cases, depending on the quality of the recording, the color/brightness may vary a bit.

I can't say about the color but it seems like  the  post 79 episodes were brighter and perhaps using a better quality video tape.

Matter of fact episodes of the first 4 years of Sesame Street were the same way and episodes from  the first 2 years of The Electric Company were also like that.

I would LOVE having some of those!! (Anything analogue is georgeous (Especially of shows I watched IN ANALOG back in the 70s and 80s))
