Fred Rogers Center has a virtual online exhibit with videos, info, part of the '68 Assisanation Special, etc.   Go to Fred Rogers Center and you will have to enter in your info - password, name, etc.  This is WAY cool!!!!!!!!

Wow! What a moving piece. I'm especially impressed that it was done so long ago when Fred was still essentially a newcomer. He wasn't yet the Neighbor we've all known and trusted for 30 years. But he spoke with the confidence of someone who was absolutely certain of himself.

Confident in words -- but I've also heard (or read) somewhere that Fred was extremely nervous when filming his portions of this special. I'd be curious to know if there's anything to that. Maybe I'll dig around and see if I can find any articles about this special with some quotes from Fred.

Interesting, Tim. You'd never know he was anything but confident from watching it. It is interesting how he suddenly switches from (seemingly at least) talking to the kids, to talking to the parents, unless there was an edit in there that wasn't in the original program.

If Fred couldn't stand to see the humor in someone getting a pie thrown in their face on tv, he must've been at wits end after RFK got shot.  Plus Vietnam was about ready to boil over.  Substance abuse/hippie movement was also in high gear at that time too.
