Greetings and Salutations!

Hello Neighbors!

This is my first post here, after taking some time to read a bunch of other wonderful discussions so many of you have taken part of over the years.

I will confess, that I'm a relative late-comer to the neighborhood. Of course, I do have very simple memories of Mister Rogers as a young child. Most specifically his sweaters and shoes at the beginning and end of every episode... and the street light! Surprisingly though, I remember very little, if anything, about the Neighborhood of Make Believe.

But it wasn't until a month ago when my wife and I saw "Won't You Be My Neighbor?" that I was completely blown away.

And now, nearly five weeks later, it is still at the very front of my mind. Every moment of my free time since then (even at work, where I am now) has consisted of scouring the internet for more information about this wonderful man, his program, his life, his mission, anything really. It's already changed my life... I'm finding myself to be more patient, more understanding, even calmer in circumstances where I would typically have a mini anxiety attack. I'm actively trying to be a better person overall.

My wife even surprised me on three separate occasions with Fred's books "The World According to Mister Rogers," "Many Ways to Say I Love You," and "Life's Journeys." So far, it's two down and one to go!

But back to the program itself... Through various websites and even Amazon, I've been watching as many episodes as I can. I usually start the day with an early black & white episode. And just recently (when I got access to Amazon Prime), after work, usually after dinner, I'll watch a post-79 episode. My wife and I watched the week on Divorce (we both come from broken homes), A Grandad for Daniel, and are about to wrap up the week on Competition. (I even took a detour to find and watch the week on Conflict). I'm a little disappointed that many of the other weeks I would love to watch (Including the weeks on Food, Superheroes, and School) are not included with Prime, but require a separate purchase.

I always look forward to the NOMB segments. And as you can tell by my username, I have absolutely fallen in love with Daniel Striped Tiger. He's just so sweet and nice and caring and full of wonder. In addition to, of course, his self-doubts and proneness to worry. I relate to him in a such a close level. I've probably watched that Mistake Duet five or so times and shed tears every single time. I have noticed though, that a lot of his insecurities seem to have been fleshed out a little later on, as in these 1968 episodes I've been watching, Daniel seems a little more confident in himself. Still though, my face simply lights up when I see him on the screen and a smile from ear to ear with every word he says. I sure do love that little tiger! I'm a little sad though, that it seems like once they built the school, Daniel spends most of his time in the schoolhouse with the other children instead of interacting with Handyman Negri and his best friend Lady Aberlin (who I am beyond thrilled to see active in this community. I've learned so much from her insights). Maybe it's just the episodes I've been watching, but I hope I get to see Daniel at his clock more often as I continue to watch more post-79s.

In the last week or so, I've also been developing a growing affinity for X The Owl. His cheerful and eager nature is very heartwarming, and I've found myself emulating his personality... Even asking 'How in the world are you?" to my wife and others close to me. I saw an episode recently, where he was upset with Henrietta for not playing catch-ball (as Mister Rogers called it) with him. It was incredibly refreshing to be reminded that even the most happy and positive among us can have moments like this.

Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself and share some of my thoughts so far. I'd love to hear some of your insights on the things I brought up too.

It's a such a good feeling!
