I seem to remember an episode where Mr. Rogers has to leave the house for a moment and asks Betty to stay wirh the television friends while he's gone. Which episode is that?

It's actually Chuck Aber who tends to the television viewers...

No, that's not the one. There's a much earlier episode where Mister Rogers has to leave for an errand, and Betty sits and talks to us. This is in the television house.

That had to be sometime during the "blue wall" episodes. I don't recall any from the black and white era, nor the early color episodes. Rumor has it that Mr. Rogers thought of handing the show over to Chuck Aber when he retired, but PBS didn't like the idea or something.

No I specifically remember Betty Aberlin being asked to sit and wait for Mister Rogers to return back whils she waited for him to return back.

With regards to the rumor that Fred Rogers wanted Chuck Aber to take over, I doubt it would have worked. It's far better that The Fred Rogers Company went with the animated series. One very good reason is that the series can be seen in different countries now.
