THE NEIGHBORHOOD ARCHIVE - All Things Mister Rogers

A Stormy Day

Episode 118
Title Daniel Gets a Shot
A Stormy Day
Air Date February 1, 2013

It's raining and Daniel Tiger is wearing his rain gear when O the Owl arrives so he and Daniel can play in the rain. As they splash in the puddles, a loud clap of thunder takes them by surprise.

Back inside, the friends are scared by the thunder but Mom Tiger calms them by encouraging them to close their eyes and think of something happy. O shares a book about the good things that rain does before Daniel make-believes that the trees and grass are singing in the rain.

Feeling a little better about the thunder, Daniel and O pretend that pillows are puddles as they continue "playing in the rain." When the thunder claps again, they close their eyes and think of something happy.

After O leaves, Daniel and his parents spend some time listening to the rain and comparing it to the sounds of music.

Strategy

  • "Close your eyes and think of something happy."
