THE NEIGHBORHOOD ARCHIVE - All Things Mister Rogers

Daniel Goes to School

Episode 103
Title Daniel's Babysitter
Daniel Goes To School
Air Date September 4, 2012

Daniel invites viewers to come to school with him. His friends are there when he arrives, but Daniel is sad when his dad has to leave for work. Dad Tiger reminds him -- grown-ups come back.

Using an Ana puppet, Teacher Harriet sings a song about what will happen at school today.

Joining his friends at the drawing table, Daniel draws a picture of his dad in a rocket ship. Prince Wednesday has drawn a picture of his dad and Miss Elaina shows a locket with her mother's picture inside. Daniel make-believes that he is in the picture of his dad and they are blasting off to the moon.

The children gather at the rug for circle time but Miss Elaina has lost her locket! Everyone works together to find the locket as they sing about how grown-ups come back. O the Owl finds the locket on the floor.

At lunch time, Miss Elaina is given the role of lunch helper and passes out the lunch boxes. She is able to determine which box belongs to each of her friends based on the style of each lunchbox. Just as the Ana puppet gives the okay to start lunch -- "Munch your lunch!" -- the grown-ups return for their children.

Strategy

  • "Grown-ups come back."
